This year marks the sixth year in a row that La Vernia Speech and Debate Congress has gone to state. With Reece Smith and Landon Collins placing 7th and 10th, respectably, the speech and debate club succeeds in showing their true skills.

“I am very proud of my Congress team this year, they continuously show that their hard work and focus continues to pay off.” says speech and debate coach Noah Recker. “I can’t wait to see how far we go next year.”

Despite this being Congress’ sixth year going to state, this is the first year that the current team has qualified for state, and their results were far from disappointing.

“Congress overall went really well with an individual team that hasn’t experienced state yet, so I really enjoyed the experience. I think overall we brought a lot to the table and showed a good representation of what our speech and debate club has to offer.” says congress contestant Landon Collins.

This year the competition was held at the UT campus at Austin and the Austin Capitol. These locations are significant due to their importance in politics and relevance towards speech and debate. The perfect location and high rank for La Vernia Speech and Debate is what made this year’s State competition a success.
